Employment That Supports My Teaching Skills

Employment That Supports My Teaching Skills:

  • Consigner Sports

Working at Consigner Sports has been a meaningful experience, allowing me to work closely with families and support kids in staying active. As a discount used sports store, our goal is to make sports more accessible by providing affordable equipment, which has shown me how financial barriers can impact participation. Through this role, I have spent a lot of time helping families find the right gear while building positive connections with young athletes. One aspect that stands out is our “Consigner Cares” account, which allows us to provide donated items for free or offer additional discounts to those in need. This experience has strengthened my understanding of equity and inclusion and reinforced the importance of creating opportunities so that all kids can participate and feel a sense of belonging.

  • Thompson Valley Services
Truck load of 650 firewood bags is being delivered to Lac le Jeune Provincial Park

Working at Thompson Valley Services has been my first experience in an official leadership and management role, as I currently manage the company’s firewood section. In this position, I am responsible for supervising staff, building relationships with customers, coworkers, and upper management, and handling tasks such as weekly planning, preparation, landscaping coordination, and the application of practical math skills. I have also developed strong organizational habits through note-taking and tracking daily responsibilities. Managing employees was challenging at first, but over time, I have become more confident and comfortable in the role. This experience has taught me that I do not need to be an “expert” to be an effective leader, but rather someone who is willing to learn, adapt, and lead by example. I see a strong connection to teaching, as both roles require patience, communication, relationship-building, and the ability to support others’ growth while continuing to learn myself.
