Volunteering Experiences

Volunteering Experiences:

  • Classroom Volunteering at Parkcrest Elementary

Volunteering in my mom’s Grade 6/7 classroom has been a valuable, hands-on experience that has helped me grow as a future educator. I have supported students in math and reading, and spent extra time working with those who experience difficulties, which has strengthened my patience and ability to differentiate support. I have also had the opportunity to take on more active roles, such as organizing and leading K-7 Physical Education classes, helping with skating lessons, and administering spelling tests and reading activities to K-3 classes. These experiences have not only built my confidence but have also given me meaningful opportunities to develop my skills in observing and assessing student learning.

  • Coaching/On Ice Helper

Coaching kids and young adults in hockey has been an incredibly meaningful experience that has shaped my growth as both a leader and future educator. It has been amazing to watch young players develop their skills, gain confidence, and chase their goals, while also building strong relationships with them along the way. I have been fortunate to learn from the coaches and mentors around me, which has influenced how I approach teaching and leadership. One experience that stands out is coaching a Bantam AAA team in 2021/22 that finished last in the regular season but showed incredible dedication and growth, ultimately going on to win in the playoffs. Seeing their perseverance and belief in each other was something I was truly proud to be a part of. Coaching at higher levels has also allowed me to connect with players through my own experiences, helping guide and support them as they continue to improve both on and off the ice.
